Carole Greenfield grew up in Colombia and lives in New England, where she teaches multilingual learners at a public elementary school. Prior to her 28+ years working with children, Carole taught writing to adults in homeless shelters, prisons and adult ESL classes. She believes anyone can learn to write. One of the greatest joys and honors of her life is the opportunity to listen to other people read their writing. In listening, she believes, we say to the writer, "Your life matters, your story matters, and you are the best person to tell it."
Writing is how Carole makes sense of her world, works through loss and grief, and how she continues to celebrate the anything-but-mundane miracles of everyday life.
In the previous century, her work appeared in Red Dancefloor, The Sow's Ear, and Gulfstream Magazine. It took Carole the next 25 years to come to terms with the concept that being published online counts, at which point she began submitting her work over the Internet. She has (reluctantly) accepted the fact that the Internet is here to stay, but whenever possible, she purchases print copies of poetry magazines and journals, and is a fan of independent bookstores. She is running out of bookshelves but that won't slow her down.
When not writing or teaching, Carole can be found brewing tea, talking to her flowers or taking walks with her incredibly-patient husband. If she is folding dishtowels or cleaning the windowsills, you can assume she is trying to avoid working on her next poem.
